Breaking Barriers Through Hockey: Project Skate Receives Support from Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Program
At Project Skate Hockey Club, we believe that every child deserves the chance to lace up a pair of skates and experience the joy of hockey, regardless of their background or financial situation. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve received a generous grant from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, a program that is changing the game—literally—for kids across Canada.
This funding is a game-changer for our club and the communities we serve. Thanks to Jumpstart, our program remains 100% free for low-income families, racialized youth, newcomers to Canada, and girls, groups that have historically faced barriers in accessing organized sports like hockey.
But that’s not all.
Each child in our program receives a full set of hockey equipment—completely free of charge. From helmets to skates to sticks and pads, Jumpstart has made it possible for us to fully equip our participants so that all they need to bring is their energy and excitement.
Why This Matters
Sports do more than build strong bodies—they build confidence, teamwork, and community. Hockey, in particular, has a deep-rooted cultural presence in Canada, but for too many families, the cost of entry is simply too high. Project Skate is working to level the ice, and Jumpstart is helping us do it.
We’ve seen firsthand the impact our program has had—smiles on the ice, friendships forming in the locker room, and young players growing in skill and self-esteem. This would not be possible without Jumpstart’s support.
